Aru Ressha - Michelin Restaurant Train

Riding the Aru Ressha, or “Sweet Train,” is like stepping into a dream where luxury and food intertwine in the most delicious way possible. From the moment I stepped aboard, I knew this was going to be more than just a train ride—it was an experience, a slow and indulgent journey through Kyushu with some of the best food I’ve ever had.

The first thing that caught my eye was the train itself. It’s stunning, with its golden art deco interiors, plush seating, and an atmosphere that feels straight out of a classic film. There’s something magical about watching the countryside roll by through wide windows while seated in such an elegant space. But while the train itself is a masterpiece, the real star of the show is the food.

The meal started with an appetizer so beautifully arranged I almost didn’t want to disturb it. Almost. The flavors were light yet incredibly rich—fresh seafood, crisp vegetables, and sauces that complemented each bite perfectly. Every ingredient felt like it had been chosen with care, and the first course alone set the stage for what was about to be an unforgettable dining experience.

As the train glided through rolling green hills, the main course arrived, and I was immediately hit with the kind of aroma that makes your stomach do a happy dance. The dish, whether it was a perfectly cooked piece of tender local meat or the freshest seafood imaginable, was plated like a work of art. The flavors were deep and layered, each bite melting into the next. Paired with seasonal vegetables that tasted like they had been harvested that morning, it was the kind of meal that makes you close your eyes just to savor it a little longer.

Then came dessert—the moment that truly makes this train live up to its name. Every element was delicate, thoughtful, and just sweet enough. Whether it was a silky custard, a crispy, buttery pastry, or traditional wagashi (Japanese sweets) served with perfectly brewed tea, it was all so light and refined that I could have easily gone for seconds… or thirds.

But the thing about Aru Ressha is that it’s not just about the food—it’s about the whole experience. The scenery outside shifts as you eat, adding a new dimension to every bite. There’s no rush, no pressure—just pure enjoyment. The train encourages you to slow down, take it all in, and savor each moment.

As the journey came to an end, I found myself wishing it could go on just a little longer. The Aru Ressha isn’t just a fancy meal on a train. It’s a celebration of great food, stunning views, and the joy of taking your time. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you, long after the last bite. If you love food and want to turn a meal into something truly special, this is one ride you absolutely need to take.
